Open related testWhat screen tearing is
Screen tearing happens when different parts of the screen show different frames at the same time.
It usually appears as a horizontal split and becomes easier to notice during fast sideways motion.
- Tearing is different from stutter.
How to test it
Use a fast horizontal motion pattern or a game with strong lateral movement.
Test once with synchronization disabled and then compare with V-Sync, FreeSync, or G-Sync enabled.
- Repeat at the display’s intended refresh rate.
How to reduce it
Enable adaptive sync if supported.
If not, compare with V-Sync.
- An FPS cap can also improve consistency in some systems.
