Dead Pixel Test
Solid colours make a suspicious dot easier to see; they do not identify its cause by themselves. Use the checks below to distinguish a physical pixel defect from dust, a surface mark or rendered content.
A monitor photo helps locate an observation; it is not an instrument reading of brightness, colour accuracy or permanent damage. Aim to represent everyday use, not the most dramatic image possible. Run normal content first, return to your usual brightness and note room lighting. Clean the camera lens. For the panel surface, follow the manufacturer’s instructions with the device off and never press on the suspect point.
Take a whole-panel image and a close-up that preserves the location. For a fixed point, record black, white and primary-colour backgrounds separately. For corner glow, keep distance, angle and display brightness unchanged. Lock exposure if the camera allows it: automatic night mode or HDR may change the appearance. Before-and-after photos with different camera or display settings are not a controlled comparison.
A screenshot and a camera photo record different things. A screenshot stores the software-rendered content; opening it on another device helps separate an image artifact from a physical display observation. A point visible only on the photographed panel may warrant further checking, but dust, reflections and camera artifacts still need consideration. Write “dark on white, same position on red” instead of turning one photo into a definitive diagnosis.
Name files with the date, test colour and setting profile. Record model, connection, resolution, Hz, brightness, room light, distance and repeat steps. Share whole-panel and close-up images together with support. Hide serial numbers, invoices and personal details in public posts. Photos do not guarantee warranty acceptance; explain the effect in ordinary films, games or work as well as on the test pattern.

A black screen is only the starting point. Viewing angle, daily brightness and automatic camera exposure must be controlled before you judge a corner glow or an edge leak.
Check a new or used monitor in a repeatable order, collect your observations in one place and export a text file or use your browser's print dialog to create a PDF.
